What is the difference between the Linkless and Direct Attached Embeddable Tire Tag?
The big difference between the Linkless (Gen4/Tag4) and the Direct Attached tag is how the antenna connects with the IC.
Hana offers two embeddable tire tag designs: Linkless and Direct Attached.
Both enable reliable, full life-cycle tire identification solutions based RAIN (UHF) RFID. The difference is the design — how the IC connects to the antenna.
Linkless Embeddable Tire Tag (Gen4/Tag4)
The Linkless design uses electronic coupling between the IC and the antenna.
The IC is encapsulated in a POD, which couples with the antenna without a solder joint. This creates a compact design, and is guaranteed throughout the entire tire life-cycle because there are no soldered connections that could be exposed to stress. It is a stable, proven architecture for long-term identification.
Direct Attached Embeddable Tire Tag
The Direct Attached design, in the market for over 20 years, uses a direct, soldered connection between the antenna and a small board containing the IC.
This provides a robust electrical path and allows more design flexibility around the IC, the antenna, and additional electronics.
The Direct Attached approach supports customization, such as adding sensing capabilities — including strain, load, or temperature — to turn the tag into a richer data source over the life of the tire.
